Matthew Ward - Toward Eternity |
| From: joint heir (---.dsl.frs2ca.sbcglobal.net) |
Date: May 31, 2008 at 20:30 |
| There are no words to describe the voice of Matthew Ward but, I will try...the BEST, angelic, moving, uplifting, effortless and just plain AWESOME!! If you have not heard the music of: Matthew Ward, his sister Annie Herring and also their former group '2nd Chapter of Acts'...then you have NOT heard music. There is NO comparison to the musical talents God has given to this family and you are truly missing out on the best Christian music you will ever hear. Go to Matthew's website & check it out.

The Awful Truth - Awful Truth |
| From: Alix (---.proxy.aol.com) |
Date: May 27, 2008 at 20:29 |
| So I used to play with David after the breakup of The Awful Truth, it was In the Garden, of course we were not nearly as great as The Awful Truth... I also have this tape and we did many of those great songs. I still listen to it today, although the quality is pretty bad. I would love to get it on CD.

| CD:
Stryper - Against the Law |
| From: Roman (---.lv.lv.cox.net) |
Date: May 18, 2008 at 19:25 |
| This was a mainstream album. Amy Grant went mainstream too. Self-righteous 'christians' who booed Stryper after this album came out were the same fanatical jerks who called Amy Grant a tramp in the late 80s. Stryper had ALWAYS put God first & had nothing else to prove! Preaching should never be out of obligation or guilt but by being led by the spirit. God bless Stryper for not being phony by being true to what they felt was right and for having balls of brass, something Christians need more of.

Kutless - Hearts Of The Innocent |
| From: Salomonkey (---.host95109.sulanet.net) |

| I think a little bit more than a half of this album is great but the rest is decent. This band are excellent but I think their first two efforts are a little bit better. This doesn't mean that this album is bad. Shut Me Out, Promise Of A Lifetime and Legacy are superlatives songs.

| CD:
Siloam - Dying to Live |
| From: Tom (---.) |
Date: April 2, 2008 at 20:40 |
| Very good melodic metal album. It compares stylistically with Dokken or Bon Jovi, without sounding 'just like' either of those bands. The songwriting here, as with 'Sweet Destiny', is really strong. The best song is the haunting Welcome To Despair. What a great song! There's some pain behind the lyrics on this one. I have to knock one thing: what is up with Brand New Man? What a dumb song. Other than that, though, this album sounds terrific!
|
| CD:
Siloam - Sweet Destiny |
| From: Tom (---.) |
Date: April 2, 2008 at 20:36 |
| Pop metal at its finest. I love this album. The songwriting is really, really strong here. The production is also very good given the era, and probably the budget. The vocalist was perfect for this album. Stu said it - it may be one of the best Christian CD's ever. I could gush and gush, but you get the point. If you like melodic hard rock and metal at all, check this out immediately.

| From: Brian Nicarry (---.152.215.241.res-cmts.eph.ptd.net) |
Date: March 6, 2008 at 23:53 |
| I'm glad you all enjoyed this record. Interested to hear who re-issued it. I played on it and had to buy my copy off eBay. Many fond memories recording and touring with the band. Sadly, the biz end was polluted with scoundrels. That's what REALLY broke up the winning lineup.

| CD:
Whitecross - Flytrap |
| From: jesse (---.) |
Date: March 5, 2008 at 8:25 |
| Whitecross without Rex Carroll isn't really Whitecross. This album is just horrid, boring and paint by number. Buy cheap as a way to fill a gap in your Whitecross collection or pass.

Refugee - Life Goes On |
| From: jesse (---.) |
Date: March 4, 2008 at 8:30 |
| i had heard this album way back in the day, but I don't remember being overly impressed. From what I recall it sounded pretty generic, although as I said, it's been some time. Unfortunately I sold this CD long ago, so I can't listen to it again. Does this band have any sound samples anywhere? Myspace maybe?

| I don't have this CD, but I have heard it and have a few MP3s from it. It was an independent release by Ian Keith Hafner of Angry Little Freak. I don't think you'll be able to find this one at the usual places. Most likely you will have to buy it directly from Ian.

| check nordicmission.net. Ebay might be your best shot. I think it might be out of print. You might also enjoy the new Discern. I read a review on nolifetilmetal.com that seems to suggest it has an old school death metal vibe. blastbeats.com has it in stock.

Mortal - Intense Live Series Vol. 5 |
| From: jesse (---.) |
Date: February 14, 2008 at 13:08 |
| A transition album for Mortal. The 2 albums before this were industrial & industrial metal. After this live EP they went for an alternative rock sound. I enjoyed the Amy Grant cover they did here. Why isnt' the rest of the Mortal catalog included on this site?

Ultimatum - Into the Pit |
| From: jesse (---.) |
Date: February 14, 2008 at 13:07 |

Eternal Decision - Eternal Decision |
| From: jesse (---.) |
Date: February 14, 2008 at 13:02 |
| Pantera meets Metallica with Christian lyrics. Good CD. Production is a little stiff and digital sounding. The drums are obviously programmed or triggered and the guitars sound processed. Still, the songs are good and the overall feel of the CD is enjoyable. My favorite of the three ED CDs. I have a different cover than that one posted above.

Vengeance Rising - Once Dead |
| From: DC (---.rivrw1.nsw.optusnet.com.au) |
Date: February 1, 2008 at 0:52 |
| In reference to my post....I'll correct in reference to Scott, the choice was made by the band due to the sheer logistics of distance and the effect it would have on recording. That's what I understand to be the case. Anyway, OD does in fact have two former Vengeance Rising members.....Thieme and Rogers.....Glenn Rogers wrote the music for songs on Human Sacrifice, in particular - Human Sacrifice, Burn, White Throne and Beheaded......and to be honest, barring the last track, are instantly recogn

Vengeance Rising - Once Dead |
| From: OD (---.dsl.frs2ca.sbcglobal.net) |
Date: January 31, 2008 at 1:46 |
| OD started as a Vengeance Rising reunion/cover and as many original members had other commits, it took on a different flavor and is it's own entity. Fasedown had two different sounds from one album to the next, including two different vocal styles.

Vengeance Rising - Once Dead |
| From: DC (---.rivrw1.nsw.optusnet.com.au) |
Date: January 31, 2008 at 0:39 |
| To be honest, no one was ever kicked out of OD so, unfortunately, if you feel ripped off, the band can't really do anything about that because each member left by the virtue of their own choice. Devin may not be a straight thrash vocalist, but the man has a voice that carries a modern thrash approach which will allow the band to be accessible to fans of modern metal.

| CD:
Extol - Burial |
| From: jesse (---.) |
Date: January 30, 2008 at 8:46 |
| This is Extol's best album. It was brutal but melodic and beautiful. It's technical as well, but not to the point that it become boring or laboring to listen to. Combines elements of death metal, black metal and thrash metal. Just a great, great extreme metal album. No other album they released after it can measure up to Burial.

| CD:
Vengeance Rising - Once Dead |
| From: jesse (---.) |
Date: January 30, 2008 at 8:40 |
| Stender. Facedown was metalcore. Hirax is a kick-butt thrash act! If you like the first Deliverance or Vengeance Rising, you'll hear a lot of similarities. Glenn Rogers wrote most of the material for those records and for Hirax. If the new Once Dead is as good as Hirax's New Age of Terror, it will be a good album. However, I am still disappointed they went with a metalcore vocalist instead of Scott Waters and the fact that Larry Farkas is no longer involved. Frankly, I feel ripped off.

| Yeah, I was kind of disapointed with the way things unfolded for the band also. I havent heard any Fasedown or Hirax material probaly because I've heard it is labeled as metalcore but what ever, I'm sure those musicians will greatly contribute to Once Dead as Ultmetal said. Also Ultmetal, I ordered the DVD and Into the pit, this is really the first time I've heard any of your vocal work but I will let you know how I like it when they come in.

| Hey jesse. Sorry you are disappointed with my exit from the band. However, I don't think you will be disappointed with Devin. He is a powerhouse vocalist. It is a bummer that Roger Dale, Larry, Glen and I couldn't record with the band, but since Glenn Rogers and Doug Thieme are doing the writing, I doubt you will be disappointed. These two guys wrote most of the material on the first two VR albums. Give it a chance before you dismiss it.

| From: steven (---.bnvtpqxqas02.globetrotter.net) |
Date: January 26, 2008 at 20:38 |
| My dear Cephas Once again i feel the urge to rebuke you. J&H is awesome. Solid guitar work from start to finish. John's vocals are still amazing. This does NOT sound like nu-metal to me or to anybody else on this message board. It's a Petra Masterpiece!

Petra - Beyond Belief |
| From: steven (---.bnvtpqxqas02.globetrotter.net) |
Date: January 26, 2008 at 20:24 |
| I have to say I'm disappointed with how many people can use a keyboard, but don't have any idea what they're talking about when it comes to music. I would tolerate someone calling Beyond Belief 'OK'....But to call it 'bad-really bad' is bad taste beyond belief. This is arguably one of the best albums of all times, musically AND lyrically speaking.

Eternal Decision - Eternal Decision |
| From: Stender (---.nas3.eugene1.or.us.da.qwest.net) |
Date: January 24, 2008 at 18:38 |
| Okay, after a couple of more spins the album kind of grew on me. There are actually quite a few brilliant moments on this disc that I overlooked on the first listen. There are many hooks throughout, like someone else said above I wouldnt really label it speed/thrash. I guess they deserve more like a 8/8.5 out of 10. One thing though if they could put together some tighter guitar solos Eternal Decision would have it made.

Vengeance Rising - Once Dead |
| From: jesse (---.) |
Date: January 18, 2008 at 10:24 |
| I must say, I'm appalled to find out that Once Dead is not the same band as on the DVD. I read that they're suppose to record a new CD, but 4 of the 5 members from the DVD are no longer in the band. Only 1 original VR member is left? There are more members of Hirax & Fasedown in the band now than VR. No Larry Farkas on guitar? Even more frightening is that they hired a metalcore singer to replace ScottWaters. I thought you did a brilliant job on the DVD. In the words of Deliverance, What a Joke!

| Great album! Thrashy and speed-to-kill. Very solid release from ToB. Guitar work is quite amazing. Vocals are definitely solid and not mush. And the Deadly Blessing cover should be excellent as Ski, the former vocalist of DB, is doing the vocals. A great album.

Deliverance - Weapons of Our Warfare |
| From: Stender (---.nas3.eugene1.or.us.da.qwest.net) |
Date: January 8, 2008 at 22:38 |
| Awesome disc! I have to say one of the better bands to come out of bob beeman's sanctuary church. Deliverance is pure late 80's early 90's thrash with some minor progressive instances on this album. George Ochoa and Jimmy Brown are great shredders. Vocals are a great cross between traditional thrash and almost power metal on some songs. 'Bought by blood' rhythm guitars sound like a slight variation to the breakdown in Slayer's 'Angel of Death'. Favorate tracks: Flesh and blood, Slay the wicked.

| Great album. Was fortunate enough to pick it up recently and am glad I did. Very solid musicianship. Lyrics are, as stated, very up-front and faith-based. Production may be lacking but that doesn't take away the solid performance of the band. Looking forward to some new stuff from these guys.

Ultimatum - Into the Pit |

| Great CD! Straight-up, no-holds-bar metal! Adding Alan Tuma to the mix provides a new feel to the music. The cover of Wrathchild is exceptional. RobertG and Rob are phenomenal and Scott just takes it up even more. Another great release from Ultimatum. Just goes to show how they keep getting better and better with each release.

| I just got this one.(Yes, I am a little behind!) Still trying to digest it. The vocals aren't really my thing. I tired of death metal vox years ago, as every band was using them. The music here sounds great and I agree with jesse that the instrumental passages seem to offer a bit of variety from the more aggressive songs.

| Stender, there are a couple copies of the Once Dead DVD on Ebay. Girder Music has copies as well. The original 100 copies were hand numbered and autographed by the band. A total of 1000 copies were pressed but they are still pretty easy to find right now. It's a great DVD and jesse is right, the interview portion is very informative.

I wish I was around when these guys were in their hayday. I have the original 'Vengeance' 1988 copy of this cd before they had to change their name, only a 1000 were made.

| Stender. Do yourself a favor and buy the Once Dead - Return with a Vengeance DVD. The interview portion of the DVD is awesome and explains a lot about the breakup of the band and why the original four members left. The concert footage is great too. Doug Thieme, Glen Mancaruso, Larry Farkas, and Roger Martin all back together and playing the classic Vengeance Rising songs.

| I already commented on this album, but I must add that with time this album has gotten better and better. I think it's an excellent thrash metal album. Hope that Retroactive will also re-release and remaster this one like they did Symphonic Extremities and Mechanics of Perilous Times.

Ultimatum - Symphonic Extremities |
| From: jesse (---.) |
Date: December 28, 2007 at 9:24 |
| I picked up the retroactive version as well. A good album. Mixes traditional heavy metal and thrash. Megaton, Blink, Symphonic Extremities and Darkest Void are my favorites. The live version of Blink with Maiden's Wrathchild is a nice bonus. My favorites are still Puppet of Destruction and the new one, Into the Pit. Still, this Cd is a good start for one of christian metal's best.

Temple Of Blood - Prepare For The Judgement Of Mankind |
| From: jesse (---.) |
Date: December 28, 2007 at 9:15 |
| Traditional heavy metal mixed with old school speed and thrash metal. Has that mid-80's feel to it. The vocals are a bit odd, but I don't think they are as bad as the post above states. I quite like this CD. Good, solid, old-school, speed metal. If this had been released in 1984, I bet it would be considered an underground classic. The Deadly Blessing cover is excellent!

| Its nice to see that some of these newer death metal bands can still keep it core. Becoming the Archetype does just that with 'terminate damnation'. These guys can pull off brutal riffs and pummeling blast beats while still able to go into intricate classical breakdowns. their second long awaited album 'The phsyics of fire' was somewhat of a disapointment to me just because the band thought they had to add clean vocals to the mix. but, if you like christian doom/death pick this one up.

Date: December 6, 2007 at 17:40 |
| It makes me wonder why Doug Thieme, Glen Mancaruso, Larry Farkas, and Roger Martin all left vengeance at the same time to form Die Happy. Is it because Roger Martinez's lyrical aproach was shifting into the satanist/atheist values that he's into now? I havent heard their last two records and I really want to finish my vengeance collection, but if the latter two albums Destruction comes and Released upon the earth are bagging on Christ screw it.

Sounds like a fairly low budget recording without proper mastering. It would be great if you guys could get back together and rerecord some of this stuff it is fantastic. | It is actually awesome that there is at least one heavy metal Christian band that actually made >heavy< music (none of this nu-metal stuff! or more modern metalcore). Not just that, but these guys have some of the most profound, honest, straight-to-the-point faith-based lyrics ever. And, their metal vocals are much better than modern metalcore- hard but coherent. You don't get any of these much anymore on the Christian metalcore scene *ahem underoath haste the day demon hunter ahem*

They have some chops but need to get a real producer to polish their songs up a little; at best, this sounds more like a decent demo tape rather than an official album release.

| Good grief... this is the most over-the-top, over-produced, over-everything album I have ever heard in my life. It's like a combo of everything bad about hair metal, AOR, and progressive rock all stirred together in a big soup pot. The aim was probably to create a Christian alternative to stadium-rock like Def Leppard, but it failed miserably. I'll stick to Ken's Shout albums, thanks....

Sacred Warrior - Obsessions |
| From: Fat Freddy (---.northjersey.com) |
Date: August 9, 2007 at 9:51 |
| Finally my Sacred Warrior collection is complete, even if the so called 'reissue' CD that I bought turned out to be a cheap bootleg CD-R with poorly reproduced cover and inserts. Buyer beware of any CCM Metal discs released on the 'ERMI Music' label... but at least I have these tunes on CD after many years and that's the most important thing isn't it? Editorial over, I think this is my favorite S.W. disc (although it might be tied with WICKED GENERATION), though you can't go wrong with any of'em

Deliverance - A Decade of... |
| From: Fat Freddy (---.northjersey.com) |
Date: August 9, 2007 at 9:45 |
| It took me forever to finally track down a copy of this compilation album! I already own most of 'The Big D's' classic albums but I had to snag this one as well due to the fact that it contains an exclusive track, 'Rescue,' which was recorded during the WEAPONS... sessions but was never included on the album. Finally, my 'D' collection is complete!

Saint - Time's End |
| From: Fat Freddy (---.northjersey.com) |
Date: August 9, 2007 at 9:44 |
| One of the forefathers of Christian metal, Saint has a lot in common sound-wise with classic Judas Priest. Josh Kramer's vocal style is very Rob Halford-inspired, which makes TIME'S END sound sorta like a long lost Priest album that might have been released in between their POINT OF ENTRY and SCREAMING FOR VENGEANCE albums. Excellent stuff!

Final Axe - Beyond Hells Gate |
| From: Fat Freddy (---.northjersey.com) |
Date: August 9, 2007 at 9:41 |
| Good ol' fashioned '80s style metal from the band that would later become Titanic. Fans of Barren Cross, Judas Priest, Armored Saint, this is for you. Simon Tyler has one of the better 'metal snarl' singing voices that I've heard in a long time.

Barren Cross - Hotter Than Hell! Live |
| From: Fat Freddy (---.northjersey.com) |
Date: August 9, 2007 at 9:33 |
| I generally don't go out of my way to pick up live albums, but I had to find this one as B.C. is simply one of my favorite bands EVER. 'Hotter Than Hell' is a decent (but not spectacular) live recording that was probably released simply to fulfill their record contract, because the band was just about broken up by the time it was released. The band sounds fine, and there are two 'exclusive' songs, so for the diehard BC fan this is a decent purchase. Casual fans probably won't want to bother tho.

Two Or More - Life In The Diamond Lane |
| From: senitha1 (---.socal.res.rr.com) |

| For all you secular 'Journey' fans, this band is for you. It's like Steve Perry turned christian, awesome vocals and sound mixing. It's no wonder, John and Dino Elefante produced it, who did many heavy metal bands and came from I think 'Boston' secular rock band b4 God turned them around.

| Just found this and though I prefer the harder bands like Stop The Bleeding era Tourniquette but this is really good. It does have that Journey/Bon Jovi vibe throughout but still it's a decent record that could have stood toe to toe with any of the AOR bands of the early nineties. Great album that I highly recommend.

| I adore this cassette & STILL listen to it to this day! If I recall straight, this tape was given to me from someone in my old youth group when I was 18-19 yrs old. I luv 'No Good Reason'. GR8 band. Each member/musician brought alot of talent to the table & yeah this is coming from a huge KX & GC fan!
